ALICE. C. SIMLEY Alice C. Simley, 91 of Finley, ND, passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2012 in Sanford Health in Fargo, ND. Alice Cornelia Erickson was born August 15, 1920 to John and Bertine (Bjerke) Erickson in Golden Lake Twsp. Steele County ND. Alice grew up and attended school in Golden Lake Twsp. She graduated from Hatton High School and from there earned her second grade teaching certificate from Mayville State. She later went back to Mayville State and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education. She moved to the west coast for a short time and then returned to North Dakota at teach school. Alice taught for 31 years with 24 years at Finley/Sharon Schools, she retired in 1986. Alice met Truman Simley at Hatton High School. They dated through school and after he returned from the Army Air Force, they were united in marriage July 17, 1949. They resided in the Finley, ND area where they raised three sons, Michael, Neal and Ron. Alice continued to reside in Finley after Truman passed away in 1988. In November of 2011 she moved to Trollwood Village Apts. in Fargo to be closer to her family. Truman and Alice enjoyed traveling making several trips to the west coast to visit family. She continued to travel to see her sisters in Washington and her children and grandchildren. She liked to be outside and work in her flower garden and strawberry patch. She was an avid NASCAR fan and followed her favorite drivers, and was looking to the start of racing season. Alice adored her grandchildren and looked forward to every time she saw them. They loved to play cards and games with grandma and listen to her tell stories and teasing each other. She looked forward to the birth of her 1st great grandchild in May to Megan and Pete. Alice is survived by three sons, Michael Simley, Fargo, ND, Neal (Kathleen) Simley, Lincoln, NE, Ronald (Jeane) Simley, Watertown, SD; four grandchildren, Megan (Pete) Johnson, Sioux Falls, SD, Stephanie Simley, Fargo, ND, Christopher and Rebecca Simley, Lincoln, NE and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Truman; brother and wife Oliver and (Vivian) Erickson; four sisters and their husbands, Julia (Gerhard) Amundson, Mildred (Edward) Tobiason, Thea (Frank) Hyatt, Edna (Bob) Armstrong and three sisters-in-law and their husbands, Ethlyn (Ordean) Vareberg, Mildfred (Al) Roske, Audrey (Arvid) Gilbertson and two nephews. Funeral Services will be Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 10:00 am in the Finley Lutheran Church, Finley, ND. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 till 7:00 in the Church and one hour before services in the Church. A Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 pm in the Church.
