THELMA C. TURNER Thelma (Timmie) Charollete Turner (91) passed away on February 22, 2017. Thelma was born January 5, 1926 to Enner and Helga (Kastet) Olson. Thelma attended country school during her elementary years, before her family moved into Cooperstown where she attended school graduating from Cooperstown High School in 1945. She continued her education at Valley City State Teachers College where she earned her teaching degree. She taught at various rural schools in Griggs and Steele counties. She then moved to Minnesota and taught school at the “million dollar” school located on the Iron Range. She also taught school at Luverne, ND and finished her teaching career of 18 years at Cooperstown Elementary School. It was during these teaching years, that she would take summer trips across the country with two other teachers having a lot of fun seeing many famous landmarks. It was on one of these trips that she met Charles Turner who was serving in the Navy and stationed in California. They were married December 21, 1960 in Biwabik, Minnesota. They had two sons, Jon Lee and Enner Charles (EC). They made their home in San Diego, California for several years. While Chuck was serving his country on various tours of duty, Thelma and her sons moved back to Cooperstown, ND and made their home here. Thelma was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. In her younger years, she both sang in the choir and taught Sunday School for many years. Family was very important to Thelma. As her parents aged, she was very busy running back and forth between her home and their home trying to keep both homes up and meals on each table. She was known for always getting a meal on the table for her family and their friends. No one left her home hungry. Chuck and she grew a large garden and she canned most of their vegetables. She also enjoyed working in her flower beds. Each spring she was anxious to get to the green house to pick out the flowers she was going to plant. Her grandkids were very special to her as she was known as “Grandma Timmie”. She was always concerned about her grandkids, making sure she always had their favorite candy bars and lemonade in the house. She was always in attendance at their church and school programs. She will be missed by her family; sons, Jon (Susan) and EC, her grandkids, Eryn and Jayden, her nephew, Charlie Mathews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister Marvel Arneson, and her niece Leila Mathews . A memorial service celebrating Thelma’s life will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cooperstown, ND on March 7, 2017 at 2:00pm.
