CLARA JO CONANT Clara Joanne Conant (Jo), age 71 of Cooperstown, ND, was called to her heavenly home on Sunday, June 22nd after a 2 yr. battle with A.L.S. (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). She slept away peacefully in her home, with her husband by her side. Clara Jo was born to August and Clara (Leininger) Rahlf on March 3rd, 1943 in Cooperstown, ND. Jo was baptized, attended Sunday School, and was confirmed, at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Binford. She attended school in Sutton, ND, graduating from Glenfield-Sutton High School in 1961. After graduating, she worked as a telephone operator in Lakota, ND. On Dec 21, 1963 she married Eldon (Cokey) Conant of McHenry. Many of her years were spent as a housewife and loving mother, as her children were growing up. Through the years, she worked a time at Griggs County Telephone Co., and later at United Accounts Collection Agency in Bismarck, ND, as they lived there for a year when Cokey worked at Melroe. In 1979 they moved back to Cooperstown and bought the Westside Motel. Jo made many many beds, cleaned many bathrooms, and washed many sheets in their 15 yrs. as motel owners. In her retirement years, she enjoyed baking for the Plaza Coffee Shoppe, reading books, fishing, playing cards, spending time with family (especially her great-grandchildren), and traveling. They spent a lot of their summer at Eastbay Campground with good friends, who are like their second family. Jo will be remembered for her tremendous faith in the Lord, her smile, her love for her family and friends, and not to be forgotten...her bread, buns, and caramel rolls. She is survived by her husband, Cokey, Cooperstown, ND ;daughter Jodi Stockeland (Jim) of Hannaford, ND; sons, Tony Conant (Amanda), Ft. Pierce, FL, Kyle Conant, West Fargo, ND; Grandchildren; Brandi Mueller (Justin), Dazey, ND, Chelsey Duffy (Travis), Jamestown, ND, Tyler Stockeland, Hannaford, ND, Anthony Conant, Raleigh, NC, Jayden Conant, Marion, ND; 2 step grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren, 3 step great-grandchildren. Siblings; Darlene Dahl, Hannaford, ND, Ted Rahlf (Donna), Rochester, MN, Paul Rahlf (Gail), Sutton, ND, and Augie Rahlf (Delores), Sutton, ND, and many nieces, nephews, & cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents August & Clara Rahlf, sister Elizabeth Saunders, nephew Rick Saunders and brother-in-law Roger Dahl. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 11:00 am in the Trinity Lutheran Church, Cooperstown, ND. Visitation will be Friday, June 27, 2014 from 5:00 till 7:30 in the Church, with A Prayer Service at 7:30 in the Church. Interment will be Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 2:00 pm in the McHenry Cemetery, McHenry, ND.
