Florence Bergetta (Gylten) Paulsen, 95, of Finley, ND passed away on September 27, 2014 at Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND. Florence was born November 4, 1918, the daughter of George (Frank) and Bertina (Moran) Gylten of Sharon, ND. Florence attended school in Franklin Township near Sharon and also at New Bergan #3 in Finley Township, before attending Sharon High School where she graduated in 1937. Florence worked for several families in the area for room and board. She married Edward Paulsen of Finley on October 22, 1941at Bang Lutheran Church rural Portland. The couple spent the first year down in Missouri, returning to farm in rural Finley, 4 miles east of town, where they farmed for over 50 years. They moved into Finley in 1993. Ed passed away in November 1996, and in 1998 Florence moved into an apartment in Finley. In 2008 she moved to Sun Center East, an Assisted Living area in Mayville, and in 2011 she moved to the Luther Memorial Nursing Home. Florence was a homemaker and was also active in Finley Lutheran Church and Order of the Eastern Star-Finley Chapter #82. Ed and Florence spent 22 years wintering in Apache Junction, AZ. They also travelled to many global destinations, the furthest trip being one to the Holy Land with a group from the Finley area. Other trips that they made included Alaska, Hawaii, the Caribbean, Canada and almost all the national parks in the U.S. They also loved to dance and attended many area dances and were members of the Eagles in Valley City, ND. In later years Florence was an avid walker and always loved shopping. Florence was a wonderful cook and loved to bake. She never let you leave hungry. Rhubarb was her favorite ingredient. She also took a great deal of pride in her lefse and Christmas cookies. Florence also loved caring for her flowers in summer and keeping the yard up. She also enjoyed embroidery work, completing many sets of dish towels, dresser scarves and pillow cases. Florence is survived by her 3 children, Karen (Jerome) Leslie of Finley, ND, Beverly (Paul) Watne of Scottsdale, AZ and Shirley (Al) Sibson of Surprise, AZ. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Pamela (Leon) Montag, Dale (Kristina) Leslie, Lynn (Tina)Leslie, Kim Rogers, and Ryan (Kayla) Watne. She is also survived by 8 great grandchildren: Amber, Clay and Lucas Montag, Tanner and Tyler Leslie, Blane and Gage Leslie and Khloe Watne as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Florence was preceded in death by her parents, husband (1996), 1 brother, Art (Gladys) Gylten, and 2 sisters, Elvina (Kenneth) McKenzie and Edna (Walter) Durham and one great grandson, Cade Leslie. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 10:00 am in the Finley Lutheran Church, Finley, ND. Visitation will be Friday, October 3, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 in the Quam-Plaisted-Cushman Funeral Home in Finley, ND and one hour before services in the Church. A Prayer Service will be at 7:00 Friday in the Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Finley Cemetery.
