LUCILLE ENGBRECHT Lucille Buechler Engbrecht was born on a stormy January 6, 1917. No medical help was available so her father, George, was in charge of the delivery. Her mother was Bertha (Rudel) Buechler. Lucille attended elementary school in Bremen, ND. She rode a horse to school. Her high school education was completed in Fessenden, ND. After high school, she attended Wahpeton State School of Science. She lived a faith-filled life and abided by the Christian values of her youth. She was a forgiving and generous person. Lucille has always been a role model for others. She had a marriage that others thought of as perfect. Her family has heard many times, “When I grow up, I want to be just like her.” She married Richard Engbrecht on June 7, 1940 at the Germantown Baptist Church in Cathay, ND. They first lived in Fessenden for several years, moved to New Rockford, Devils Lake, Carrington and then Cooperstown ND in 1949. It was in Cooperstown where they settled and raised their family. Lucille supported her love for nice things by working at Model Clothing, Maxine’s Clothing and Howden’s Drug Store. In retirement they enjoyed winters in Mesa, Arizona, where Lucille taught water aerobics. She was an active member of the United Presbyterian Church of Cooperstown, ND. She was involved with Circle and supportive with Bible and other church activities. She considered this community as an extended part of her family and made many friends there. She moved to Devils Lake in 2011. Lucille is survived by two sisters, Marlys Getty of Lakeville, MN and Patty Evenson of Fargo, ND; one brother, Wes Buechler of Kansas City, MO. She is also survived by three children, Ron Engbrecht (Sue), Jill Skorheim, Beth Fiebiger (Darrell Nilep). Her grandchildren include Jade (Dave) Fischer, Laine (Andrea) White, Ben Engbrecht, Greg Engbrecht and Kristie (Michael) Ahern and 8 great-grandchildren. Her beloved husband, Richard, died June 11, 1996. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and siblings; Ed Buechler, Esther Thomas and son-in-law, Steve Skorheim. There will be a Private Graveside Service. A Memorial Service will be held in the summer of 2017.
