WILL BE TOMORROW FROM 12:00 TILL 2:00 A THE CHURCH JOYCE JERSTAD Joyce Muriel Mellum Jerstad December 12th, 1929- November 29th, 2021 Joyce Muriel Jerstad passed away Monday, November 29th, 2021 at the age of 91 under the care of hospice at Hatton Prairie Village Nursing Home, Hatton N.D. Joyce was born December 12th, 1929 in rural Finley to Gustav and Selma (Grafsgaard) Mellum. Later the family moved to rural McHenry, ND where Joyce went to first and second grades. Joyce then went to live with Tena Christopherson on her farm west of Finley, ND. Joyce attended Franklin Township school and then graduated from Finley High School in 1947. After high school, Joyce attended Mayville State College, earning her teaching degree. Joyce then taught at the New Bergan and Franklin Township schools in rural Finley, and elementary schools in Pickert, ND and Dilworth, MN. Joyce married Floyd Jerstad on May 28, 1960 in Moorhead, MN. They made their home on the Jerstad farm west of Finley. Floyd died in 1975 and Joyce continued to live on the farm until 2009 when she moved to an apartment in Finley where she enjoyed visiting with friends. Following some health problems, she moved to Hatton Prairie Village in 2020. Joyce was active in the Eastern Stars, Finley Library, Finley Lutheran Church and Finley Senior Center. Joyce will be greatly missed. She is survived by her sons, Faron (Collette) Jerstad, Fargo, ND, Brian (Angie) Jerstad, Finley ND, sister Betty (Roger) Westby, New Rockford ND, sisters-in-law, Marlys (Duane) Mellum, Carson City, NV, Phyllis (Lincoln) Jerstad, Des Moines, IA, and Evelyn (Ralph) Brovold, New England, ND, four grandchildren, Brittany Jerstad, Aaron, Trisha and Jori Jerstad, three great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brothers, Gordon and Duane Mellum. Visitation will be Sunday, December 5, 2021 from 5:00 till 7:00 pm with a Prayer Service and 6:00 pm in the Finley Lutheran Church, Finley, ND. Funeral Services will be Monday, December 6, 2021 at 2:00 pm in the Finley Lutheran Church, Finley, ND. Interment will be in the Finley Cemetery, Finley, ND.
