DOROTH DUNKER Dorothy May Arison Dunker was born May 11, 1920, in Sycamore, Illinois. She was the third of eight children of Charles John Arison and Esther Elisabeth Gustafson Arison, and grew up on the family dairy farm near Sycamore where her specialty became making pies to feed the family and hired hands. Following high school in Sycamore, she attended Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois, graduating with a degree in Christian Education in 1947. She met her husband to be, A. Maurice Dunker, at Wheaton College. They were married December 27, 1947. Over the years, her work included helping on the farm and then in the family Case Implement dealership in Sycamore, the Wheaton College bookstore, A & P Foods, mothering four children, and teaching elementary school in Winthrop Harbor, Illinois, and Fairfax County schools in Reston, McLean, and Falls Church, Virginia. She loved teaching 5th and 6th grade until her retirement in 1986. Following retirement, Dottie and Maury returned to the Midwest, living in Ames, Iowa; then Cooperstown, North Dakota; and finally, Fargo, North Dakota. Dottie’s Christian faith was the foundation of her life, underlying her gentle, loving, prayerful and nurturing teaching and service to others. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Esther, her siblings Lester Arison, Quentin Arison, Mary Hermanson, Jean Arison and John Arison. She is survived by her siblings Irene King of Cincinnati, OH, and Elaine Maxwell of Lone Tree, CO; her children Kathleen Boyles (Roger) of Black Forest, CO; Roger Dunker and Russell Ford-Dunker (Colleen) of Fargo, ND; and Rebecca Loge (Gene) of Cooperstown, ND; and five grandchildren Jenna Boyles of Larkspur, CO; Spencer Boyles (Samantha Padgett) of Palmer Lake, CO; Noah Ford-Dunker of Fargo, ND; John Ford-Dunker and Gabe Ford-Dunker of New York City, NY; and two great-grandchildren Zahava Padgett-Boyles and Izaiah Padgett-Boyles. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2019, at 3:00 p.m. at Saron Evangelical Free Church, 11571 County Road 22, Rural Cooperstown, ND. Visitation will be at 2:00 p.m. Memorial gifts in Dottie’s honor may be contributed to Hospice of Red River Valley, 1701 38th Street South, Suite 101, Fargo, ND 58103, or Saron Evangelical Free Church.
