Interment will be in the Saron Cemetery, rural Cooperstown, ND. A. Maurice Dunker 86 of Fargo, ND, died December 17, 2009, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND. Albert Maurice “Maury” Dunker, 86, was born September 8, 1923, in Decatur, IL the son of Jacob and Nellie (Hutton) Dunker . Growing up in the Great Depression, Maury helped in family enterprises—peddling donuts made by his mother, tending domestic rabbits that were raised for food, and working in his father’s tire and battery shop. He graduated from Stephen Decatur High School and attended tech school in radio and electronics at the University of Kansas, before serving in the U.S. Army. As a radio technician attached to an Armored Field Artillery Battalion, he participated in five WWII battles: the Normandy Invasion, the Battle of Northern France, the Rhineland Campaign, the Battle of the Bulge, and the Central Europe Campaign. During the war, he felt called into Christian service and changed his vocational plans from engineering to ministry. He attended Milliken University briefly and graduated from Wheaton College (IL), where he met his sweetheart, Dorothy Arison. They married during college, and then Maury attended Dallas Theological Seminary. He served as pastor of two churches—Dubuque Bible Church and Sully Community Church—both in Iowa. He left full time ministry as a vocation, but never abandoned his calling to Christian service—volunteering in teaching, preaching, administrative, and support roles in churches while living in Winthrop Harbor, IL; McLean, VA; Ames, IA; and Cooperstown, ND. His second career was in civil service for the U.S. Navy, beginning at the Electronic Supply Office in North Chicago. He retired as a Contracts Administrator in the Naval Electronic Systems Command in Washington, D.C. He maintained strong interests in classical music, photography, and computer technology. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy (Arison) Dunker, Fargo,, ND; four children, Kathleen (Roger) Boyles and Roger Dunker, both of Colorado Springs; Russell (Colleen) Ford-Dunker, Fargo; and Rebecca (Eugene) Loge, rural Cooperstown; five grandchildren, Jenna Boyles, Colorado Springs; Spencer Boyles, Seattle, WA; Noah Ford-Dunker, John Ford-Dunker and Gabe Ford-Dunker, Fargo; and many extended family. Maury was preceded in death by his parents, Nellie (Hutton) and Jacob Dunker and siblings William (Ada) Dunker, Frances (Everett) Pippin, Lucille (Gene) Bilderback, Eugene (Ellen) Dunker, and Kenneth (Marie) Dunker
