SYLIVA PETERSON Sylvia Haugen Peterson, 91, went to be with Jesus her Lord and Savior on September 22, 2013. She passed away at the Edgewood Vista Nursing Home in Fargo, ND. Sylvia was born January 27, 1922 to Bennie M and Oline (Horvei) Haugen in Greenfield Township Griggs County. She was the 7th of 11 children. She told many stories of her early years growing up in a large family. Many of the stories had a musical element to them with both instruments and singing involved. She went to school in Fargo for a time and then to Valley City Teachers College and taught school in the Finley, ND area. On March 4, 1944, she married her high school sweetheart, Leslie Peterson. They were married for 62 years. They lived and farmed in Dover Township Griggs County. Later they moved to Hannaford and still later to Fargo, ND. During their retirement years they traveled to Tucson, AZ for the winter months. Since 2009, her home has been in Edgewood Vista in Fargo, ND. She was very active in Eidfjord Lutheran Church as teacher and superintendent of the Sunday School, Ladies Aid positions, Luther League advisor, treasurer of Eidfjord and also treasurer of the Trinity Parish board. One of the rewarding activities she loved was being the girls 4-H leader for years. Another highlight of her life was a trip to Norway to visit relatives and tour the country. Her days were filled with activity, caring for her family, gardening, sewing and quilting, reading, and genealogy of both sides of her family. She is remembered as being constantly busy with some project or other. She leaves 2 daughters: Dianne Louise (Charles) Hetland, Hannaford, ND, Ellen Marie (Larry) Moe, Fargo, ND; 6 grandchildren, Terry Hoerer, Vicki Moran, Brian Moe, Paula Schuh, Lynette Usry and Stephanie Neiffer and fourteen great-grandchildren; five great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bennie and Oline, husband, Leslie; daughter Karen Jean Hoerer, brothers, Oscar, Melford, Clarence and Norman, her sisters, Sophie Peterson, Mildred Dawson, Lillian Leslie, Berneice Cowing, Beverly Cooper and Esther Thompson. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, September 25, 2013 in the Faith Lutheran Church, Hannaford, ND. Visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday, September 24, 2013 in the Quam-Plaisted-Cushman Funeral Home in Cooperstown, ND and one hour before services in the Church. A Prayer Service will be Tuesday at 7:00 pm in the Quam-Plaisted-Cushman Funeral Home in Cooperstown, ND. Interment will be in the Faith Lutheran Cemetery, Hannaford, ND.
