Frieda Steinke Frieda Steinke, 90, rural Hope, ND peacefully passed from her earthly life on November 20, confident that victory over death has been won by Jesus through His death and resurrection. The funeral service will be Monday, November 25, 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hope, ND with Rev. Leo Deitemeyer, Mayville, officiating. The family will greet guests one hour before the service. Interment will be at the Hope Cemetery. Frieda Margaret Funk was born February 15, 1929 in Dousman, WI, to Peter and Marie (Arnold) Funk. She was baptized October 22, 1929 at Saint Paul Lutheran Church, Oconomowoc, WI. She moved to North Dakota with her family in the spring of 1934 where they settled on the farm in Big Bend township near Lisbon, ND. She attended country school through eighth grade. Frieda was confirmed May 24, 1942 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Lisbon and graduated from Lisbon High School in 1946. She worked at the courthouse for Ransom County Social Services until she married Wayne Steinke on October 28, 1951. They farmed near Hope, ND. Wayne passed away suddenly in March 1994 and Frieda remained on the farm with their son Mike, daughter-in-law Amy and family. Frieda was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Hope, and served as organist, Sunday School teacher and was an active Lutheran Women's Missionary League member. She enjoyed her garden and flowers, especially zinnias, and was always busy helping around the farm. She was a 4-H leader for fifteen years. She always had sewing projects to work on, especially for children in Haiti and girls in South Sudan. She looked forward to the holidays when family would come home to the farm. Frieda is survived by six children and their spouses, Patricia (John) Sebastian, Bismarck; Peggy (Kevin) Hankel and Polly (Dale) Olson, Fargo; Mike (Amy), Hope; Penny (Paul) Anderson, Edina, MN and Pam (Randy) Aberle, Fargo. She is also survived by her youngest brother Herman (Carolyn) Funk, Lisbon, fourteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Her husband, Wayne, her parents and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Otto (Shirley) and Paul (Gladys) Funk preceded her in death. Memorials may be given to Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch, PO Box 5007, Minot, ND 58702 or African Heart American Soul, 300 NP Ave, #205, Fargo, ND 58102 as a remembrance of Frieda's compassion for children less fortunate than her own children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
