Grace Janet Elston Kainz was born September 23, 1932 in Clifford, ND to Ike and Fern (Umsted) Elston. She married Robert Kainz on September 29th, 1950, and they lived in Hope until his death in 1999. She is survived David (Camille), Peggy (Gary)Goings, Steve (Rita) and Curt (Beth), 17 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. Throughout her years in Hope she worked at a variety of businesses. Her hobbies included bowling, fishing, gardening, reading, knitting, crocheting, baking and painting. She especially enjoyed playing cribbage, playing cards, bingo, and visiting Mahnomen. She was preceded in death by her husband, all of her siblings, and a great-granddaughter. In her own words: My life is like the tumbleweed. At times I seem to gather speed, twist and turn, tumble and fall. Over some hurdles, then into a wall. Can’t continue on an even pace, always struggling to take my place. The winds that blow control this weed, but along the way it scatters the seed. A Graveside serviced will be Friday, September 11, 2020 at 1:30 pm in the Hope Cemetery, Hope, ND. Fellowship will follow at the Hope American Legion.
