Please share a memory of KENNETH to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kenneth Marvin Dahl, “Grandpa Kenny”, was born on August 1, 1918 to John and Anna
Dahl in Circle, Montana. His parents were from Hannaford and moved to Montana for
one year and then returned to Washburn Township to start farming. He went to Washburn
Schools and graduated from Cooperstown High School in 1937. Shortly after graduating
from high school, he hopped on a freight train and went to the west coast. He went to welding
school and worked in the Bremerton Shipyards building Navy ships during the fi rst part of
WWII. He met his wife Daisy Adlard in Portland, Oregon and they were married on June
30, 1943 in Gresham, Oregon.
Shortly after their marriage he joined the SeaBee’s and was stationed in Hawaii and the
Philippines. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for construction companies for fi ve
years after the war ended. His love for farming never died and he returned to Cooperstown,
ND to farm in 1950 until his death. During this time, they were blessed by two boys. In
1980, Kenneth and his good friends built three condominiums in Cooperstown, ND where
he unsuccessfully att empted “retirement”.
Kenneth was a member in the Sons of Norway, Trinity Lutheran Church, VFW, and the
American Legion. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends, fi shing trips to Canada, winter
vacations with his beloved wife, Daisy, and friends in Texas, and he loved all the time spent
with his kitt ies. In his retirement, he enjoyed driving to the farm, at least two times a day,
to feed his kitt ies. Grandpa Kenny was an inspiration and adored by his granddaughters.
Kenneth played an active role in the lives of his granddaughters. He taught them the art of
making lefse and soft molasses cookies. He enjoyed visiting until late at night, telling them
stories of his younger years. He had a love for farming and was active in its operation until
his death.

(Lyana) Dahl, Cooperstown, ND; six granddaughters: Jennifer (Justin) Best, Everett , WA;
