John Omar Thompson John O Thompson, 93, Hannaford, ND died Wednesday, December at the Nelson County Hospital in McVille, ND. John Thompson was born February 10, 1922 to Knute and Martha Thompson. He grew up in rural Hannaford and attended school in Dover Township graduating in 1941. He attended the NDSU Ag School. He was employed by Remmington Arms Inc. in Denver Colorado for 9 months prior to entry into the Army in 1942. He operated a lapping machine in a munitions plant: ground surface of the inside of dies for punching out rifle bullet casings; ground die by placing on cylinder hone; inspected die for smoothness; cleaned parts in gasline, adjusted lapp hone for proper length. He was inducted into the army November 18, 1942 at Ft. Snelling and received an Honorable Discharge from Ft Logan on February 12, 1946. He served in the European Theater January 17, 1945 to July 23, 1945. He served as an automotive technician for all army vehicles. John married Esther Haugen on November 11, 1947 at the Eidfjord Lutheran Church, rural Walum, ND and began His life farming and raising seven children. He was a lifelong member Eidfjord Lutheran Church. John will always be remembered for his love of farming and raising cattle. Many of his nieces and nephews have fond memories of spending time at John’s farm. Many will remember the fond stories of Jake the Rooster among other memories. He always had the time for anyone who stopped by and fixed many cars and operating equipment for many. John is survived by children: Muriel (David) Hedrick, Wahpeton, ND, their children, Michael, Dan (Shannon) Joe (Laura) ; Audrey Thompson, McVille, ND; John (Donna) Thompson, Hannaford, ND; Son in Law Gene Fuglesten, Buxton, ND, children: Jonathan (Mickey), Scott, Chad (Jessie); Bette (Brad) Messner, McVille, ND, their children, Josh (Erin), Dustin (Kristine), Jake (Kayla); Jane (Dale) Tucker, Fargo, ND, their children, Ryan, Emily, Abbey; Joan Thompson, Bismarck, ND, her children, Amanda, Aaron, Joe, Ashley. Great grandchildren, Ethan Hedrick, Erica Hedrick Bauer, Owen, Sam and Joe Hedrick, Wyatt Hedrick, Tyson and Duane Fuglesten, Abby Fuglesten, Aiyanna and Bailey Smith. Great, great grandchildren Ava and Ethan; his sister Marion Michaelson, Detroit Lakes and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his wife Esther, daughter Kathleen; parents, Martha and Knute; brothers: Casper, Morris, Oscar, Clarence, Albert and Sister Clara Walks. Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 29, 2015 in the McVille Lutheran Church, McVille, ND. Visitation will be Monday, December 28, 2015 from 5:00 till 7:00 in the Quam-Plaisted-Cushman Funeral Home in Cooperstown, ND and one hour before services in the Church. A Prayer Service will be Monday at 7:00 pm in the Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Eidfjord Cemetery, rural Hannaford, ND at 2:00 pm Tuesday.
