Donald Eldon Dahl, 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at Serenity Assisted Living, Dilworth, MN. Donald was born on September 28, 1929 to Thomas and Sophia (Trost) Dahl in the birthing home in Cooperstown, ND. He went to grade school at the Michaelis School and graduated from high school in Cooperstown, ND; he was the only one of his siblings to graduate from high school. He married Elaine Ramsey on May 22, 1949. Don was a determined, hard-working man. He founded Dahl’s Industrial Tool Company in West Fargo, ND, in 1962. He owned and worked at the company until 1994. In his spare time he enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, dancing, cooking (wild game feeds), and watching baseball and football. He was also a church elder at Grace Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND, for a number of years. He loved animals, especially dogs. During his retirement, he loved spending time at Dahl’s Industrial Tool Company (“the Shop”) and the Silver Dollar Bar and Grill in West Fargo. During the first year of their marriage, Don and Elaine lived in Washington State where he worked in an apple orchard and on a fishing boat. Their first child was born while they were in Washington. They moved back to North Dakota in 1950. Don and Elaine had seven children Eileen (Greg Glur) Dahl, Valerie (Dean) Solyntjes, Pamela Coste, Natalie (Charles) Ramsett, Rebecca Barry, D. Ramsey (Lyndell) Dahl, Michelle (Jerry Monroe) Dahl-Monroe. He is also survived by his sisters Betty Erickson, Evelyn Braaten, and Arlene Moore; brother Lyle (Linda) Dahl, sisters-in-law Darlene Dahl and Connie Dahl, as well as his many loving grandchildren: Rachel Scott, Renae Solyntjes, Angie Bohn, Chris Ramsett, Laura Solyntjes, Donny Dahl, Shane Ramsett, Philip Solyntjes, Alyssa Mongeau, Carla Bakken, Brian Glur, Vance Dahl, Cody Freuhling, and Tyla Dahl-Monroe; 10 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Sophia, his wife, Elaine, his brothers, Roger and David, and his brothers-in-law, Verel, Dale, and Duane. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Grace Lutheran Church, Fargo on Friday, February 17, 2017. Funeral services will be at Grace Lutheran Church, Fargo on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 10:00, with a light lunch after. Immediately following Don will be laid to rest at 3:00 pm in the Zion Lutheran Church, rural Binford, ND, where there will be a short service and light lunch as well.
